Nutso pastor, check!
Reason to hate America, check!
Fire hazard, check!
The only thing missing here is this Terry Jones’ brain and common sense. I don’t even want to imagine how his “flock” acts in church and in the community. The people that go to his church seem like the same type of people that would go out of their way to hit a puddle while driving down the street if they see someone that even looks Arab. If this does go through I can totally see a Darwin Award being given out to Terry Jones by the end of the Koran burning.
Gen. David Petraeus, head of Multinational Forces in Afghanistan, on Tuesday repeated his warning that any plans to burn the Muslim holy book — considered a major offense in the Islamic community — would jeopardize U.S. military efforts.
But Terry Jones, pastor of the 50-member Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Fla., told MyFoxOrlando.com that he and the church’s members feel strongly about their decision to hold the book burning despite being denied a permit from the fire department.
When he was asked by a reporter why he was doing this he replied
“We understand the general’s concerns, we are taking those into consideration,” Jones was quoted saying. “We feel it’s maybe the right time for America to stand up. How long are we going to bow down? How long are we going to be controlled by the terrorists, by radical Islam?”
I don’t know about you, but I am going to be staying as far away from Gainsville Florida and the Dove World Outreach Center.
About Wheeler
I am a multi car train wreck of half assed dreams. Sure I like the idea of success, but getting there is like super hard and stuff. I probably drink too much and I am a horrible drunk dialer. My mother still does my laundry and comes over to my house to cook me food. When I play video games on XBOX Live I tend to use awful language with young children. My football addiction has been compared to that of a heroin user. I don’t like using condoms. My apartment is super cold by choice. I love to take super hot and excessively long showers. I don’t recycle; in fact I go out of my way to litter. I hate shaving and combing my hair. I wear basketball shorts and hoodies almost all the time. I don’t like Christmas or any other holiday that doesn’t permit excessive drinking. I didn’t vote for Barak Obama. I have been arrested 12 times in 9 different municipalities, all for unpaid traffic tickets. I have been in a knife fight and lost. Golf is something I do poorly. I spell like a blind kid. I stole G.I. Joes from a blind kid when I lived in Baltimore. I am bad with money. You wouldn’t confuse me with Jerry Seinfeld because I am not Jewish or funny. I burn every bridge I can for the sake of making things harder for me when I need something from that person. Anyone that knows me for any period of time finds me disagreeable. The only things I do well are complain and consume.
I admit that sometimes I feel like America is “bowing down” to Islam (specifically Obama). However, I don’t really see what this is meant to achieve. Is he trying to piss off a group that doesn’t need a reason to be pissed off?
I thought South Park’s Muhammad episodes were hilarious, and they were taunting the terrorists, so that principle doesn’t seem to be the problem here. Maybe it’s the lack of humor associated with it. He’s basically bitch-slapping the entire Islamic community with a dead serious look on his face. He’s not trying to poke fun of a stupid situation, he’s trying to make his own stupid situation in retaliation.
(also, i love how the only requirements on here are Name and Email…who cares whether or not you leave a comment)
I’m not sure what world we live in or what has become of Western mankind, but a couple things to ponder. Why is it that this pastor no longer has freedom of speech in his own country? He can be the bigest goon crackpot and he still has a right to do this. We routinely burn crosses and Bibles, put crucifixes in urine and many liberals and conservative agnostics alike think it is perfectly fine to denounce and belittle Christians and their faith. However, this man inm some small town is going to burn a book and we are so nervous of what it might spark that we are discussing this? Are you kidding? Seriously is it not clear what has won and what has lost? The general is correct that it will stir hostility; so does everything else that is half-understood or completely fabricated in certain regions of the Muslim world. If it is not this, then it is some cartoonist in Holland or the infidel telling their children not to wear traditional clothes in French and English schools. We must decide whether we are constantly going to act like sheep or fight some some semblance of decency in this world. I think the pastor is misguided and pandering, but in many ways this is a masterstroke at exposing the world to what utterly useless, spoiled sheeple we have become.
Also at the risk of sounding racist while it not being my intention, this parallels how this country deals with its African American population. “Let not distubr them lest they become enraged and inconvenience our lives!!” Meanwhile fixable problems go ignored and festered until this country hates itself and is going down the drain. The political correctness, quotas, lack of accountability, and double standards in how we deal with each other are actively harming the African American community while destroying this nation’s better judgement. We no longer can counter threats or remedy even basic problems unless they can fit in a nice tidy p.c. wrapping. The West is dealing with Muslims in much the same way now in England, France, and even the US. Nothing good can or will come of this. The funny thing is if you hold your ground the people yelling from the rooftops begin to see how futile and silly they look when good and reasonable people do not cater to the insanity.
Interesting view Carlos. I will for the sake of consistency find an instance of someone burning the bible and more then likely I will denounce it. It all comes down to one thing, would you want someone to retaliate against you in the same way you wronged them? My guess is, no.
Now the people that will retaliate (terrorist) they don’t have the mental or moral capacity to stop being jackasses and blowing themselves up in crowded market places. This is why I believe a Koran burning party is a horrible idea. Why add gasoline to the fire when it is nearly out?
